An exclusive interview with Publisher, Frances
Stevens
Curve magazine is the number one best selling lesbian magazine for the past 10 years and counting. Chicagostuds.com staff are not only avid readers of Curve, but, Frances Stevens, Editor-in-Chief and Publisher, is our Hero! Curve’s true-to- journalistic approach on informing the lesbian community is Top Notch and with Curve’s up to date entertainment, sports, politics and fashion news, Curve Magazine is our handbook to the lesbian community. CS: What was the primary purpose for starting Curve Magazine? FS: After searching for a lesbian magazine like Curve for many years, we decided to start the publication ourselves. Simply stated, we wanted to create the kind of magazine we'd want to read ourselves. CS: Looking at the landmark events, movies and television specials, do you feel the climate in Hollywood is changing towards gays and lesbians? FS: Absolutely. Today, there are lesbian and gay characters in movies and television shows across the board. Today, characters are developed beyond the sexual stereotypes that have been the norm for so many years. Things have changed a lot in the last 10 years but we still have a very long way to go. CS: If you can do one other thing besides the magazine to change the face of ignorance what would be another project for you? FS: We are actually working on some other projects that we feel will help make a change. Keep an eye on Curvemag.com for those developments. CS: From your experience, who is the most difficult group and/or person that persecutes gays a lesbian that you would like to educate? FS: People who claim not to know any gay people can do a lot of damage, but when someone they know or love comes out to them, they often change their ways. So the best way for all of us to make a difference is to come out, come out, come out. We thank Ms. Stevens for her time and dedication. We hope to do more exciting things with Curve in the near future. Find out more about what Curve is doing and the new Holiday issue. Log onto Curvemag.com. |
